Blackjack is a fun and easy casino banking game that is popular around the world. It descends from the family of casino games known as Twenty-One (also known as vingt-et-un). The game has European origins and was likely first played in France in the 18th century (vingt-et-un in French translates to twenty-one).

If you are interested in learning how to play casino blackjack, then this blog post is for you. Here, we will highlight everything you need to know about this deceptively simple game that can be played with one or several decks of cards. Let’s get started.

What Is Casino Blackjack?

The objective of Blackjack is to beat the dealer, rather than the other players at the table. There are several different ways that you can beat the dealer, including:

  • Draw a hand value higher than the dealer’s hand value
  • The dealer draws a hand value that goes over 21
  • Draw a hand value of exactly 21 on the first 2 cards (providing that the dealer does not)

There are 2 ways that you can lose to the dealer in blackjack. The first is if your hand value exceeds 21. The second way is if the dealer has a greater hand value than you at the end of the round.

Before we proceed any further, let’s look at how to determine a hand’s total value. Numbers 2 through 10 count as face value, while the Jack, Queen, and King all count as 10. The ace can count as either 1 or 11, depending on which value is most helpful to the player.

How to Play Casino Blackjack

When you join a blackjack table, the dealer will deal 2 cards to all players (both cards face up) and 2 cards to themselves (1 face up and 1 face down).

The players will then decide whether to hit or stand. If you choose to hit, the dealer will deal you another card. Depending on the total value of your hand, you may ask the dealer for more than one card.

If you choose to stand, the dealer will not deal you any more cards. Generally, you will stand once the value of your cards is quite high (for example higher than 17). As long as your hand value is 21 or less, you will remain in the game.

Once every player has made their decisions, the dealer will then reveal their facedown card. If your total hand value is higher than theirs, you win the game. If the dealer’s hand value is higher, they will win.
