At this point, it’s safe to say slip-on sneakers are having a moment. As the athletic-inspired sport luxe trend continues to swell, micro-trends are cropping up within it. Celine came out with their high-end slip-on sneakers for Spring/Summer 2012, and Sandro’s Anaconda slip-ons were a street style smash amongst bloggers and celebrities alike. (Check out Michelle Williams wearing hers with leather leggings.)
Not surprisingly, these trend-setting French designers inspired a renaissance for the slip-on sneaker that has trickled down to our favorite contemporary brands. Madewell is now stocking classic checkerboard Vans, and styled them with many of their fall looks, and fast-fashion shoemakers like Sam Edelman and Steve Madden have been quick to release their own (super-affordable) slip-ons in on-trend prints like camouflage and leopard.
We’re predicting this trend’s longevity to span well past spring and into fall 2014. With so many prints and fabrications to choose from, slip-on sneakers are even more wearable than their lace-up (and equally on-trend) counterparts. Buy a pair now to wear with leather pants and your chicest winter overcoats, and wear them into the spring with mini skirts and flirty dresses. We love how this style can ground a more feminine or dressy ensemble, but slip-ons are also the ideal go-to weekend sneaker with boyfriend jeans and slouchy sweaters.
