In the words of the incomparable Missy Elliot, sometimes all you need to do is "flip it and reverse it." A backless dress, or jumpsuit for that matter, is already inherently sexy. Drape a necklace down that bare spine and you can guarantee a double-take as you glide through any party.

We first took note of this look when Kate Hudson rocked a diamond encrusted tassel necklace with a high-neck and stunningly low-back gown at the SAG Awards in 2010. With a pulled back updo and seductive, over-the-shoulder glance, we were floored. Then Jennifer Lawrence wore a backwards necklace to both the 2013 and 2014 Academy Awards, and most recently, Cara Delevingne tried the look at the Cannes Film Festival.

No need to wait for your red carpet debut to try this trend. We've scouted plenty of scoop and backless dresses that deserve a long, dangling accoutrement. For date night, a short and sporty white Miu Miu frock will pair perfectly with Kate Spade's sparking Estate Garden necklace. Glam up a post-beach day barbeque by adding a gold lariat-style necklace from Jules Smith to a flowing maxi dress from Flynn Skye.

One last hot tip: don't forget the self-tanner. Enlist a friend assist you in getting a nice faux glow on your back before you slip into that revealing dress. Sometimes looking back is a good thing.
