We look to designers during Fashion Week to see what to wear the following season. Or if you’re anything like us fashion editors, to see what we can wear immediately to truly be ahead of the trend. With Milan Fashion Week just concluded, it’s clear that designers in Italy agreed on at least one thing: fashion is getting sporty for spring.
Now don’t expect cotton hoodies and traditional track pants—this is fashion after all. The runways were filled with elevated versions of conventional athletic gear. At Gucci (where the trend was set in motion), models donned what looked like mesh tops that were actually shirts made of laser-cut leather. Irridescent track suits and silk basketball shorts were also on hand. Certainly not what you’re wearing to ride the elliptical at New York Sports Club. At Prada, tube socks and striped trims were added to the mix, followed by high-end hoodies at Pucci, and embellished bomber jackets at Marni. These are the clothes you wear if you want to look like you worked out.
Finding the right gym motivation is never a bad thing. And if dressing the part is the first step, we have our Milan fashion designers to thank.
