Matin Zad is a New York–based photographer who recently graduated from OCAD University. Having a passion for cinema, he seeks to blur the line between still and moving image, creating evocative, fully realized scenes through still imagery, and letting the viewer fill in the blanks. His work often reflects the way he makes sense of the unknown through his camera lenses, navigating new and unfamiliar realms through portraiture, fashion photography and film. He aims to inject purity and candour into his images in hopes of getting his ideals into people’s heads, rather than inviting the viewer into his. His untainted worldview is often at odds with the self-gratifying environments he explores. His work often shows the tension between the two, as photographs that cannot be categorized as fine art or fashion. He strives to make these opposing worlds make sense visually, trusting that the metaphor, and the poetry, will follow. Matin is currently assisting and is available for freelance editorial work.
