How To Wear Shoes Without Socks, AKA the Art of the Slip-On
While in winter, survival (and warm toes) depend on layers, one of the things I look forward to losing come spring and summer are extraneous accessories like scarves, gloves, and hats. To further emphasize my aversion to all things extra, I’m going to be a spring clear-away maximalist by being a total layer minimalist. I’m going sockless. The secret to how to wear shoes without socks, you ask? Easy: slip on shoes. While your mind might go directly to house slippers and flip-flops, I’m thinking of something a little more luxe than that. The only way I’ll abandon my go-to footwear of sneakers, is via an equally desirable selection of amazing slip on shoes.
In the shopping slideshow above, we’ve done all the research for you to offer up the best slip-on shoes available to buy right now. For my fellow sneaker aficionados out there, there are plenty of slip-on sneakers for men to shop. A classic white Vans will always be a good buy, and honestly look even cooler after getting a bit beat up at Coachella. For preppy beach weekends, boat shoes are always the best choice. If you’re office-bound, loafers for men are a “professional” way to go sans socks. (To be extra safe, save these for casual Friday.) Late for a flight to St. Tropez? Make sure to pack driving moccasins to easily blend in with the locals. And beachside in Tulum, I’ll be wearing an easy pair of men’s espadrilles by Toms.
How to wear shoes without socks really comes down to finding shoes spectacular enough to stand on their own. While we know nothing came between Brooke Shields and her Calvins, this summer, nothing will come between me and my Bottega Veneta slip-on sneakers. —Alex Sweterlitsch (@sweterlitsch)
