Peter Facinelli provided more than one pleasant surprise at the Armani "One Night Only" party in New York City on Thursday. The first was that that the star of cult classics like Can't Hardly Wait and Riding In Cars With Boys was there in the first place (we've missed him!) and the second was his choice of a velvet dinner jacket and dark slacks, instead of a traditional suit. We're definitely fans of this bold alternative to the classic tux.
Facinelli—who most recently played Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight saga and Dr. Cooper on Nurse Jackie—looked dapper and modern kitted out in Armani. The velvet dinner jacket is a bold choice for any young man—you run the risk of looking like Hugh Hefner's doppelganger. To make this formalwear move look fresh, he wore slim-fit grey trousers and no tie. One other important element? The jacket is single-button, which is inherantly rakish and slightly more casual than a two-button blazer.
The velvet jacket is a bold choice—but as the holidays (and their endless parties) draw closer, we're thinking it's the perfect antidote to your typical suit.
