The Toner: REN Clarifying Toning Lotion, $28. Toning lotion is perfect in winter since it removes dead skin and reduces redness without scrubbing, which can potentially aggravate dryness. This important (neglected) step will also take care of your pores and oil buildup throughout the day. Don’t skip it.
The Serum: John Master’s Organics Hydrating Serum, $26. Green tea is an anti-inflammatory, while algae, aloe vera, and rose hydrate and replenish the skin. Serum is a great thing to add to your AM/PM lineup, though this product is best for aging skin types or the ultra-sensitive.
The Shave: Roots Rose Radish Beard Oil, $40. Shaving foams can just make problems worse, so try a moisturizing beard oil instead. This organic brand from California just popped up on our radar making our shave a whole lot sweeter.
There’s nothing sexy about chapped skin (or lips). But most guys don’t know that when the winter rolls around, what you use to take care of your mug has got to change. So ditch the astringent acne wash, the shaving foam, and the “day” moisturizer—they’re making the problem worse. Up the intensity with these six options instead. —Phillip Picardi (@pfpicardi)
