Believe it or not, there’s a very specific art to washing your face. We’ve already covered the best cleansers currently on the market, but let’s not forget the men. Tom Ford certainly didn’t when he launched his appropriately luxurious skincare range for men.
As it turns out, an effective face wash for men has the same criteria as an effective face wash in general. “Men should keep in mind the same things as women when shopping for facial cleansers,” says dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf. “They should look for a pH–balanced facial cleanser.”
Rule of thumb: always stick to a cleanser that’s geared toward your skin type, whether it’s combination or dry. Try Avène’s incredibly gentle (yet effective) Cleanance Gel or everyone’s shower staple, Cetaphil. Those with oily T–zones can benefit from Glytone’s Self–Foaming Cleanser. Bonus? It helps prevent ingrown hairs.
“I would also recommend an unscented facial cleanser,” adds Dr. Graf. “Some men use scented body wash in the shower as their face wash—I don’t recommend that.” Needless to say, we don’t recommend it either—which is why we’ve assembled a slideshow of face–friendly picks picks. From derm–approved brands to personally tested product, these face washes are the best way to get clean. And ladies, this is skincare you definitely won’t mind borrowing from the boys.
