“I get bored of color, whereas neutral colors have more lasting power for me,” says artist Max Snow of his self-described “black and white eye.” His gallery show earlier this year, titled “100 Headless Women,” was an appropriate embodiment of Snow’s aesthetic, in which images blended the beauty of the nude female form into a kind of dark sensibility. (The subject’s eyes were blurred over with black etching ink and included his fiancée, stylist Vanessa Traina.)

Where the black ink used in the exhibition was purely about anonymity, when it comes to his clothes Snow prefers the shade for practical purposes, explaining that this way, “everything matches.” A closer look into Snow’s closet revealed more than a few custom pieces—from J.B. Hill boots from El Paso, Texas to a one-of-a-kind shirt from Manuel (a legendary tailor from Nashville, Tennessee who has made clothing for the likes of Johnny Cash and Elvis). But that’s not to say that Snow is a stranger to the world of luxury fashion—he effortlessly mixes special, one-off pieces with high-end labels like Hermès and Lanvin for a style that is, well, authentically his own. —Alex Sweterlitsch
