SOUTHERN DHARMA RETREAT CENTER, HOT SPRINGS, NC: Founded in 1978, the facility hosts 25 to 30 retreats each year, but they’re in high demand so book early (the annual retreat schedule is posted in January). The center focuses on peace and tranquility, so expect plenty of meditation and silence. Also on the agenda: sleeping in bunk beds, eating vegan meals and enjoying beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
