The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman on How To Survive Fashion Week
With all of the non-stop activity, we all know Fashion Week isn’t for the faint of heart.
Luckily, Lifestyle Mirror’s guest editor, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist fame, has some tips on how to survive the chaos this year. Having covered shows during New York's Fashion Week for Saks Fifth Avenue—never mind enjoying them from the front row—this style and photography veteran has had all sorts of expertise to impart. Get your pencils ready.
First, Schuman recommends a little morning exercise to get the blood going. “Force yourself to get the early sun with a morning run—it must be good, it even rhymes,” he says. “It actually gives you more energy.”
Next: “Bring your own food—like oatmeal,” he advises. “Oatmeal in Europe is basically like melted cotton candy.” Rather than run on empty sugars—or worse, empty all together—bring some healthy whole grains along to help sustain that much-needed attention.
And last, but not least: fan engagement. “Immediate interaction with the audience really gives me the drive,” he says. “[It] gives you the strength to keep doing it.” So, no matter how you plan to cover it—Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, or Vine—don’t forget to check back frequently to see how your followers respond to what you’re posting.
