The Four Steps Celebs Use To Get Glowing Skin On The Red Carpet
The focus may be all about the dresses come Oscar night, but what we really want to know is how the leading ladies get that perfectly luminous skin. (How come Kelly Osbourne and Guiliana Rancic never ask about their facialists?) We caught up with Joanna Vargas, Celebrity Facialist and Founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection—some of her A-list clients include Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz—on how she preps skin for the red carpet spotlight. She broke down the formula into four simple steps.
Eat Your Veggies Vargas credits Naomi Watts' amazing youthful skin to eating veggies at every meal. "It's important to eat well for your skin before any red carpet event," says Vargas. "Eating greens will help to oxygenate your skin, encourage lymphatic drainage and keep you de-puffed and glowing from within." For fast veggies in the morning, mix a packet of powdered greens, like Dr. Lipman's Greens, into water, coconut water or a morning smoothie.
Get a Peel Without the Side Effects Glowing skin on the red carpet isn't a trick of the light. "Emma Stone and Michelle Williams love to have a glow on the red carpet, so I do my Power Peel," says Vargas. "[It] begins with a diamond peel microdermabrasion, I cleanse the skin with my Vitamin C Face Wash, apply a blueberry and paprika mask to detox tissue, and it doubles as a fruit acid peel." This simulates circulation for a natural glow while the light impact peel exfoliates without irritating skin. "Next I put them under LED light [to even out skin tone] and finish with oxygen, and an application of my Daily Serum. It works for all skin types and makes you look like you're glowing from 10 miles away."
Contour Without the Makeup To eliminate puffiness instantly, Vargas gives her clients the Triple Crown Facial. "I use a mild electric current to drain puffiness, tone muscle and tighten skin," says Vargas. "There is no downtime, people love the instant effect and long term, the effects are cumulative. Microcurrent will make your cheekbones high and your jaw and neck really perfect for pictures. This is my favorite facial to give to anyone before a big day like a red carpet."
Get Your Beauty Sleep, Literally "I encourage my celebrity clients to sleep in my Exfoliating Mask the night before a red carpet event. It evens out pigment, takes down inflammation and after a good night's sleep in it, you wake up fresh faced like you have just had a facial!" Growth hormones that stimulate skin repair work most actively at night, making the products you apply just before hitting the hay vital to your skincare routine.
