Our cover subject Rose Byrneis known for her diverse acting talent, sure, but there's no question that the Bridesmaids actress is also known for her beauty. That's why, while interviewing makeup artist Mai Quynh for Byrne's "Get the Beauty Look" feature, it was a shock to learn that she's allergic to many common ingredients found in cosmetics. You'll also see below that she suffers from rosacea, which means her sensitive skin takes a lot of work. Needless to say, it was interesting to hear what Rose had to say about her beauty routine, her favorite products, and her new go-to brands. Read more to find out what she's using and then shop a few of her favorites below. —Phillip Picardi (@pfpicardi)
LM: What’s your daily skincare regimen? Are there specific products that you use? RB: I’ve got very sensitive skin so I have to keep it really, really simple. Rose hip oil is a really great soothing product for me, since I get rosacea. I’m using mostly that and Dermalogica stuff ‘cause that’s quite gentle and calming. I can never go too potent, my skin just flairs up quite badly, so for me, the simpler the better. And then staying out of the sun and wearing a hat is a huge thing. I think coming from Australia, we’re taught to do that but I try to abide by that a lot. I definitely have to work at my skin.
LM:Do you ever treat yourself to facials, massages, or beauty treatments? RB: Yeah, there’s a great Christine Chin Spa here in New York. They do a great facial.
LM:Are you into nails at all? And if so, do you have any colors or brands that you prefer? RB: I’m not that crazy about nails… I do maybe in New York ‘cause they’re on every corner and you can go whenever you want and get your nails done, which is hysterical. So that’s sort of fun to do if you’ve got a visitor in town. I can never keep them dry enough… you know, like you literally can’t touch anything for three hours. I tend to not do them so much because I’m so clumsy.
LM: And what about makeup? Do you have a particular group of must haves for a night out versus just around during the day? RB: I always wear a little bit of cover-up or base to even out my skin tone. That’s my main thing—I’m always just a little red, so that and sunscreen, obviously. I just keep it simple ‘cause I have to wear so much makeup at work, but on my days off it’s very simple—just a bit of base and some lip stain ‘cause my lips are quite pale.
LM: Do you have brands for the lip stain or the concealer that you prefer? RB: I mean I love all NARS makeup, it’s gorgeous and I can wear it and feel beautiful. Korres does a lovely lip stain which is nice and which you can get at the fancy stores… And Fresh, that’s a nice line, they do a good lip stain.
LM: And the last question, do you wear a fragrance? RB: I’ve been wearing the Balenciaga one a little bit, their signature one that came out. I really like that… I really like perfume, it makes you feel sophisticated, you know? It’s a fun thing to do, it makes you feel more like a lady.
