AMANDA DE CADENET EXPLAINS: HOW TO GET READY IN A TAXI CAB

"Eight times out of ten, I'm doing my makeup in the back of a car going to an event," explains multi-hyphenate Amanda de Cadenet. "I just don't have the time. You know, I'm a working mom. I have six-year-old twins."

The phrase "working mom" is a bit of an understatement. (Isn't it always?) de Cadenet skyrocketed from young television personality to well-known photographer (hello, Vogue covers), to becoming an activist, a wife, a mom, and then—finally—a TV star once more. Her current Lifetime project, aptly titled The Conversation, engages some of the casual gal-pals de Cadenet has amassed over the years (Whitney Cummings, Amber Valletta, Zoe Saldana, etc) in a dialogue about what women are going through today, how one can manage to "have it all", and what they've learned along their journeys. The result: Heartfelt, inspirational, and empowering messages, all captured through an intimate and revealing (you guessed it!) conversation.

One needs to simply tune in to The Conversation for a glimpse into the more serious life lessons of the lovely Ms. de Cadenet. But when we got a few stolen moments with her on the phone, we couldn't help but ask the sensational blonde beauty some more... obvious questions. Like, for example, "What's in your beauty bag?"

With a few laughs and some very chic references to her industry pals—legends like Rose-Marie Swift, Bob Recine, Kate Lee, and more—de Cadenet revealed she had a practically bulletproof approach to beauty that's manifested thanks to years of practice on the red carpet. "I'm all about minimal time for the biggest impact. Sometimes, though, I show up at events and I just hope that my makeup is on straight. My husband will be driving and he'll go, 'We're hitting the freeway!' or, 'We're going over a bump!'"

As any beauty expert knows, years of practice doesn't necessarily always make perfect. "The other day, I had this huge red carpet mishap at an event with Gwyneth," she said. (Yes, she and Paltrow are so close that it's a first-name thing. Cue insane jealousy.) "I realized right before I walked out the door that I hadn't shaved my legs! I cut them really, really badly. So I actually ended up putting RMS Un-Cover Up all over the legs and it was fine. I mean... just one little bump wouldn't stop bleeding..."

As for the golden rule, de Cadenet echoes just about every great makeup artist in the world: "Find the one or two things that make you feel presentable." (You can see what hers are by hovering over the numbers in the collage above.) "You don't need to spend a ton of time," she insists. "A little can go a long way. I've found my routine that really does work."

Note that the items above are in pot form—ideal for applying with fingers... and for multiple-use. (Her concealer can double as foundation, her lip stain as a cheek stain, her eyeshadow as a highlighter, etc.) Take some tips from our new favorite DIY beauty pro and let us know how you manage to get ready in a pinch in the comments section below. By Phillip Picardi (@pfpicardi)
