As soon as our photographer Billy Kidd saw Garance's natural beauty (read: no makeup or hair products the morning of the shoot!), he decided on his inspiration for the look. He instructed makeup artist Katey Denno to keep it ultra clean and chic, referencing Lauren Hutton as a muse. As for the hair, enhancing her natural, bouncy curls was key for hairstylist Charlie Taylor.
On the eyes, Katey used a blend of the colors in Lancôme Color Design Eye Quad in Show Stopper (try VIP Entrance instead), using a fine-domed brush (try NARS) to apply a golden highlight to the inner corners and in the center of the eyelid toward the lash line. "We did no mascara," she explained, "but I did curl her lashes using the Shu Uemura curler." Afterwards, with a slightly larger domed brush, she "drew in slightly above the crease and traced the outer two thirds of the lash line with the dark brown shade, blending thoroughly with a fluffy blending brush."
Charlie Taylor was tasked with enhancing Garance's natural, gorgeous curls. She applied a dollop of Rene Furterer Mousse liberally from root to tip, massaging into the hair. She then twirled 1—2" sections to define the curl. Using a "Sock Diffuser", she blowdired at medium speed, high heat, holding the sections in place and "socking" into them gently with a downwards motion. "This ensures that the hair follicles are dried flat and seem most shiny." On dry hair, she applied a small amount of Rene Furterer Gel, raking fingers through the hair to prevent flyaways.

Lauren Hutton-Inspired Beauty
Get Garance Doré's Cover Beauty Look
Our cover shoot at Cipriani Wall Street with Garance Doré was such a blast—mostly because Doré is an absolute wonder to work with. She was practically effervescent while chatting with makeup artist Katey Denno and hairstylist Charlie Taylor, discussing everything from life as a New York transplant to stealing fragrance from her husband Scott (aka The Sartorialist). By now, you've already seen her showcase some gorgeous winter fashion with our snowy photoshoot, so it's about time you learned the beauty scoop. The look was intended to simply enhance her natural radiance and capture her infectious personality, with photographer Billy Kidd referencing Lauren Hutton as inspiration. (Which is funny, since Doré later named Hutton one of her favorite beauty icons.) Click through the slides above to see how you can recreate the natural look as seen on Doré—including tips on how to manage a mane of curly hair. —Phillip Picardi (@pfpicardi)
