Today, President of the United States (POTUS) Barack Obama will take oath for his second term as the leader of the country. Political analysts, journalists, and news correspondents from all over will use this as an opportunity to discuss predictions for an Obama second term, look back at the past four years, and speak more in-depth about the issues facing our country today.
The fashion pack, meanwhile, will put Couture Week on hold to wonder (with bated breath): What's Michelle Obama wearing?
So far, Inaugural Weekend turned out to be not much of a sartorial surprise—two repeat outfits, including a Michael Kors dress and an Alexander McQueen tunic (pictured above). But at the official swearing in, FLOTUS wore a new Reed Krakoff number, hopefully building up anticipation for what she'll wear at the big ball tonight. (She may have to show up Lady Gaga, after all.)
Since the blogosphere couldn't talk too much about fashion, it seems that beauty became the inaugural highlight. President Obama told reporters, "...to address the most significant event of this weekend, I love [Michelle's] bangs." And what glorious bangs they are! A heavy fringe varied in length frames her forehead quite nicely, while she's free to play with a sleek, straight look (pictured) or something a bit more textured.
So the comparison seemed only inevitable when Kerry Washington took to the podium alongside Rosario Dawson at The Daily Beast's Bipartisan Inaugural Brunch yesterday, rocking her (also fairly new) fringe. If you keep up with our beauty stories on the daily, you'll know Ms. Washington won our "Best of the Golden Globes Beauty" feature. Now, just imagine how torn we are in seeing the above side-by-side photo.
Who to pick? The First Lady, our flawless leader in American fashion? Or Kerry Washington, the red carpet ace and Scandal star who stole our hearts?
